Food to give sex life a boost

When things become a little blue in the bedroom, most people resort to cosmetic fixes and miracle pills, being sorely oblivious to Nature’s bounty overflowing with natural cures for low libido. (1)

Feeding has always been closely linked with courtship. Food and sex are generally closely linked. They are physically linked in the limbic system of the brain, which controls emotional activity generally. It is not surprising that we not only link them, but do so emotionally. Good food = good sex. (2)
The following listed foods help to stimulate libido and improve sex life:

1. Pumpkin Seeds
Research shows that pumpkin seeds are a great libido booster. They contain many libido vitamins including the B vitamins, and vitamins E, C, D, and K. They also contain essential sex drive minerals like calcium, potassium, niacin, and phosphorous. Most importantly, pumpkin seeds contain high loads of zinc, which is important for preventing testosterone deficiency in men. (3)
As men begin to age, there is a natural decline in zinc. A zinc deficiency can lead to prostate enlargement, as well as other male sexual health problems including impotency. This is due to the fact that prostate tissues are highly dependent on zinc. (3)
Pumpkin seeds can also help to sustain lubrication and boost female sex drive. (3)
Myosin, an amino acid found in pumpkin seeds, is known to be essential for muscular contractions, which may be necessary for good sex. (3)

2. Oysters
Oysters contain dopamine, a neurotransmitter that helps to govern brain activity and influence sexual desire in men and women. The passions produced from raw oysters, some have suggested, is linked to high levels of zinc and complex sugars and proteins. (4)
Like all shellfish, oysters contain a variety of vitamins, minerals and heart-healthy Omega 3 fatty acids. Oysters can contribute to a healthy, balanced diet. Like all shellfish, oysters are low in calories and saturated fats, and are also excellent sources of protein and contain omega-3 fatty acids. Like fish, shellfish contribute to health by providing essential minerals and vitamins such as iron, zinc, copper and vitamin B 12. (4)

3. Goji Berries
Goji is actually the Chinese name. The English translation is Barberry Wolfberry. The berry is compact rich with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and proteins. The Goji Berry contains a compound called Betaine. This antioxidant compound has a number of positive health affects on the body. One of them is that it relaxes the nervous system, thereby alleviating stress symptoms and one of the most widely talked about cause of low libido is stress. Goji Berry also increases the level of testosterone in the body. (5)

4. Bananas
Their reputation for being libido enhancing food is supported by a theory that says its chelating minerals and the bromelain enzyme improve male libido. Vitamins and minerals are abundant in the banana, offering 123 I.U. of vitamin A for the large size. A full range of B vitamins are present with .07 mg of Thiamine, .15 mg of Riboflavin, .82 mg Niacin, .88 mg vitamin B6, and 29 mcg of Folic Acid. There are even 13.8 mg of vitamin C. On the mineral scale Calcium counts in at 9.2 mg, Magnesium 44.1 mg, with trace amounts of iron and zinc. The presence of zinc is responsible for sexual enhancement. (6)
Bananas contain tryptophan, that the body converts into serotonin – known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier (6). Serotonin is responsible for the euphoric satisfaction after sex (1).

5. Celery
Celery is said to be another libido-enhancing food. Eating celery stimulates the body to release androsterone through sweat. This hormone has the ability to potentially turn a woman on. (7)

6. Dark Chocolate
According to recent findings there is an association between eating chocolate and sexual fulfillment. Women who love chocolates seem to have better love lives (8).
One bite of dark chocolate releases enough endorphins to mirror an orgasm. A regular intake helps keep libidos high, so that lovemaking never gets tiresome. (1)

7. Chillies
Capsaicin, the active component contributing to the heat factor in chillies, is responsible for releasing the endorphins that spark sexual desire. (1)

  1. well figs, avocados, and nuts do resemble testicles I guess lol. But in all seriousness, a diet rich in Omega fatty acids (Salmon and other fish, eggs, etc.) and grains (Rice, corn, lentils) is the key to a good increase in libido and stamina. My hubby had a low sex drive until I got him eating healthy foods such as the ones I mentioned. Avoid fast food at all costs and enjoy some healthy home-cooked meals as much as possible.

  2. 'healthy home-cooked' food is the gateway to a healthy life (which also includes a pleasant conjugal life)

  3. Lean meat contains proteins that increase dopamine production, which in turn increases sexual satisfaction levels. Eating oats for breakfast can balance out both estrogen and testosterone levels.
You can also consume natural aphrodisiacs such as ginseng and gingko. These aphrodisiacs act as vasodilators and, over a period of time, end up enhancing sexual desire.
