last week after our class in ID Hospital ,Beliaghata as we were coming out of the auditorium , a baby was being brought to the ward (new admission)....we were curious and went to have a look and it turned out to be a case of neonatal tetanus.
previously till that time, i had only read about the condition and thought it was not seen these days, but seeing the baby in opisthotonos made me think once again on the previous notion that i had about the condition.....as our guide pointed out , in spite of all the efforts that are being given to drive out this menace , there are people who are still ignorant about it and don't get immunized properly during pregnancy and often undergo unsafe delivery process which ultimately culminates in such cases. it was very sad to see so innocent a life in such a pain.....
