a story lurks in every corner...

Power cut

The area where I live now seldom has power cuts. In fact I can actually count on my fingers the total number of times we had a power cut in our locality in the last two years!

Today evening as I was opening a book to read, suddenly the world around went black with a power cut. It was dark all around.

Also I was not much in a hurry to get up and start searching for a candle to light either. So I lay on my bed and let my eyes acclimatise to the darkness surrounding me. As the eyes slowly adjusted to the new setting, I looked around to see the things in my room become evident out of the veil of darkness.

Yes! There is my table with books stacked on it. As I looked the other side, on my left was the window through which a faint glow percolated into the room.

The blades of the ceiling fan had stopped rotating and to let in some fresh air, I opened the window and wow! As I pushed open the pane, there right in front of me was the bright moon surrounding whom was a faint paint of a cloud or two through which the moon glowed a beautiful halo around it. What a beautiful sight to behold! 'It must be a full moon night', I thought and I remembered my childhood times when many a night I had passed watching the beautiful moon soar across the sky.

Just then I remembered that we all see the same moon, but the sight gets lost amid the brick walls and bright lights of the fast city life.

Strange, that we live so close to mother nature and still we are so far away from her...
